Who we are

It started with
“I don’t know.”

A counting-coins worksheet came home with empty answer spaces, a giant “I don’t know,” and a drawing full of frustration. For one engineer and dad, it became the starting point for building a different way to learn.

Our story

A different way
to try.

An unfinished worksheet became the beginning of something worth building.

The answers were blank. The message was clear.

When a dad saw the counting-coins worksheets his child brought home, three words stood out in giant handwriting: “I don’t know.” Beside them was a drawing that showed just how frustrating the task had become.

As a parent, he wanted to help. As a software engineer, he wondered what he could build to make practice feel more approachable.

So he created Money Market, a website where his children could practice counting coins in a different way. This time, they successfully counted the coins. A task that had ended in frustration became something they could do.

That experience shaped Engineer Dad Tools. We build tools to help children find a way into learning, with familiar interests, small steps, and space to discover what they can do.

Our name tells you where we started: an engineer and dad with more than 15 years of experience in software and IT. Our purpose includes every parent and caregiver looking for a way to help their child learn and grow.

What we believe

Every child is different.
Their learning should be, too.

Children deserve to be understood as individuals, with support that fits who they are and what they need to grow.

01 / SEE THE WHOLE CHILD

A hard moment doesn’t define a child.

Children shouldn’t have to be “good apples” every moment to deserve patience, belonging, and support. They need room to struggle, make mistakes, and try again. We believe in setting caring, clear boundaries while asking what each child needs to move forward.

02 / HONOR THEIR OWN PATH

Growth has more than one shape.

Children don’t all need to reach the same place at the same time. Meaningful goals can look different for each child. The right support helps them take their next step, at a pace that works for them.

03 / MAKE SUPPORT PERSONAL

New possibilities with AI.

AI makes it possible to create more individual learning experiences, with explanations, activities, and guidance shaped around a child’s needs. We use it to help parents offer that support, with their care and judgment at the center.

Three strategies we use

Start with curiosity.
Grow into confidence.

We build our tools around three simple ideas: connect with what a child loves, offer manageable steps, and give them a chance to share what they know.

Catalyst: connect learning
with what they love.

A child’s favorite topic can open the door to something they find difficult or uninteresting. We create tools that bring those two things together, giving children a reason to join in.

We call this our catalyst: a familiar interest that helps learning get started.

A true story of connection

One of our children wasn’t interested in practicing social stories, but loved Las Vegas hotels. So we built a website that placed social situations inside that favorite world.

“If you hit another child at a Las Vegas hotel, what could you do next?”

The skill we wanted to practice stayed the same. Connecting it to something he loved made him willing to give it a try.

Small steps:
build confidence along the way.

Learning something new is easier when the next step feels within reach. We begin with something familiar, offer examples and guidance, and gradually make room for more independence.

Sometimes that means exploring the same idea in several different ways. Children have time to practice, make mistakes, and find an approach that clicks.

As confidence grows, we invite them to explain their thinking in their own words, with AI offering gentle prompts when needed.

Small steps. A real breakthrough.

From a two-hour struggle to two-minute worksheets.

Practicing two-digit by one-digit multiplication once led to a two-hour tantrum for one of our children. Dad saw how overwhelming the task had become and built a multiplication website to help break it down.

The website offered five different ways to explore the concept, beginning with adding numbers one by one and gradually working toward the standard multiplication method.

With practice, he mastered the method and went on to complete entire worksheets in two minutes, without supervision. Small, manageable steps had helped him do independently what once felt overwhelming.

Learner as teacher:
let them share what they know.

Explaining an idea to someone else can help a child understand it more clearly. In our AI-assisted learning activities, children take the lead: they explain their thinking, describe why a method works, and share what they know in their own words.

The AI listens, asks questions, and offers feedback on their reasoning. This helps bring gaps in understanding into view and gives children a chance to work through them.

A true story of understanding

From finding the answer to explaining the why.

One of our children was studying independently on a popular online learning platform. She could solve familiar math problems, but even a small change in how a question was asked could leave her stuck. She didn’t pass her first Accelerated Math Pathways test.

Dad set up an AI learning project with a different approach: she took the teacher’s role. For each problem, she had to explain what she was thinking, why she chose her answer, and how she knew it made sense.

The AI’s task was to evaluate her explanations and check her understanding of the key concepts, going beyond whether the final answer was correct.

On her next test, she passed. For our family, it was a reminder of how much learning can happen when a child gets to explain the “why.”

What we provide

Help with what gets
in the way of learning.

When your child is learning confidently, let them cruise. We focus on the moments when reluctance, lack of interest, or difficulty focusing gets in the way.

Our tools address these barriers around learning, rather than providing a daily academic practice routine. We believe interest can spark a child’s natural desire to explore, understand, and learn.

Make difficult tasks easier to approach

When a child dreads a task, we look for a more inviting way in: a familiar interest, a meaningful choice, or a smaller first step that makes trying feel possible.

Find the spark of interest

Connect learning with the topics, stories, and activities a child already cares about. Give them a reason to wonder, ask questions, and want to discover more.

Let them lead the learning

Give children the teacher’s role: invite them to share their thoughts in their own way, explain what they know, and help choose what to explore next. With more ownership and less pressure, learning can become something they choose to do, driven by their own curiosity.

From our family to yours

Let’s build what your child needs.

Have an idea for a tool that could help your child? We can work with you to create something tailored to their interests, challenges, and learning needs.

You can also start with a problem. Tell us what feels difficult, what you’ve tried, and what your child enjoys. We’ll brainstorm with you and explore practical solutions together.

Every idea starts with a conversation.

Tell us about your child.

Share a little about the challenge you’d like help with. We’ll use your message to start the conversation.
